Sponsoring a Soccer Team

I blog about life in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world, where 70% live on less than $2.15 a day. But every kid knows how to play soccer—a dusty patch of ground and the game begins. Imbeko now sponsors a team of local boys from the island school, giving them brand-new uniforms and balls to chase their dreams.

Nkhwazi School Upgrades

Imbeko recently flew to Africa to look at a school in Malawi which needs our help. The school is in need of work desks and Imbeko is securing funding for the school upgrades needed. We have a new goal set for 2026, and talks with donors have been very successful!

Shining a Light on Katundu

Imbeko partnered with Katundu workshop on the shores of Lake Malawi, where artists led by Lisa Njakale and Philli Mwase create beautiful handmade pieces. Proceeds from Katundu support vital anti-poaching efforts on Likoma Island, helping protect the region’s endangered wildlife.

Magic in Malawi!

On Likoma Island, St Peter’s Cathedral towers above Lake Malawi—a vast Gothic Revival church built over a century ago from local granite. It’s one of the largest cathedrals in Central Africa, a stunning landmark of faith and history.

Heatherbank Drama Hall

Heatherbank Pre & Primary School, nestled in Gqeberha’s Walmer Township area, opened its pre‑school in 2013 with just 33 young learners. Since then, it’s grown into a thriving education centre, serving around 80 little ones in Grades 00 to R and approximately 162 pupils from Grades 1 to 7, all staffed by dedicated educators who nurture their full potential.

Heatherbank Pre & Primary School

Originally a public‑private initiative dating back to 1974, Heatherbank reopened when the primary closed in 2012, and by 2022 had earned Umalusi accreditation for quality education.

Likhameng Primary School

Likhameng Primary School, situated high in the remote mountains of Lesotho, serves children who trek miles—often on foot or by donkey—to access basic education in a region with scarce infrastructure, limited classroom space, and persistent needs for books and stationery.

Khayalethu Youth Centre

Khayalethu Youth Centre provides essential care, education, and support to vulnerable children and young people in Nelson Mandela Bay. Recognising the importance of raising the centre’s profile, Imbeko partnered with Khayalethu to strengthen its donor outreach.
